A group of final year Journalism and Sports Journalism students gained the chance to network with industry professionals at an event at ITN in London.
The highlight of the evening was a talk given by the BBC’s Clive Myrie, who spoke passionately about the importance of diversity in journalism.
The reception is held every year by the John Schofield Trust, a charity which works to improve representation within the journalism industry, by offering industry mentors to those just starting out in the profession.
LJMU is one of a handful of universities involved in the scheme and currently has ten final year students working closely with their mentors.

Journalism student Niamh McKay said: “The John Schofield annual reception was such an amazing event and opportunity to meet amazing people from the industry and other students in the program. I found it very beneficial.”
Sports Journalism student Martin Crawford added: “It was great, I had lots of helpful and enjoyable conversations. There were plenty of interesting people there.”
Senior lecturer in Journalism at LJMU, Polly Sharpe, said; “Events like this are a fantastic opportunity for our students to meet people from a wide variety of backgrounds and see first-hand that journalism can be a career for them. We’re now in the second year of our partnership with the JST and the response from our students has been overwhelmingly positive.”
