A local singer songwriter came back home to launch her new EP this week, with a special launch party taking place in Liverpool.
The EP, by the artist known as SheBeat, is called ‘Catch Your Breath’, with three songs on the digital version and four on the limited edition CD.
Jodie Schofield, the voice behind SheBeat, held her launch at The Jacaranda bar where she played her music live.
Growing up in south Liverpool but now living and working in Birmingham, Jodie explained how it was essential for her to come back to the city to share her songs.
She told JMU Journalism: “It was really important to me that I was able to come home and do a gig and share my songs with the people who saw me starting out a few years ago.
“They’ve supported me and followed me as I have gone on as a songwriter, so yes it was important to share my songs with the locals.”
The title song on her EP is called ‘Catch Your Breath’ which she started last summer by writing the chorus but did not get any further.

She explained how after she played at Liverpool Sound City in spring she was inspired to write a song and finished what would become ‘Catch Your Breath’.
She said: “I picked up my notes and went through them, I saw that chorus and the rest of the song came together.
“What I wanted it to be was a ‘don’t worry be happy’ kind of tune for people to listen to and feel uplifted. People can be quite down on themselves sometimes and expect too much of themselves. This song is about ‘take a minute and you’ll be alright’.”
She hopes to make an album as she has enough songs but does not have the money to record one yet. It is on her wish list for 2020 and hopes when she does record one that she can also get it pressed on vinyl.
