An LJMU MA Sports Journalism student has landed a plum job as PR and comms officer with Premier League club, Brentford.
Robert Ilsley will take up his position with immediate effect just days before submitting his final MA project.
Rob, originally from Northampton, started our MA Sports Journalism course in September 2021.
Throughout the year he volunteered to report for Everton FC academy and WSL matches after being introduced to the club’s content manager by course leader, Pete Leydon.
Rob said: “Without the Everton role I would have never been able to get this full-time position at Brentford. I really appreciate all the support LJMU has given me.”
Rob had previously studied a journalism degree at Derby University but chose the MA programme due its NCTJ accreditation and the opportunities for real world reporting.
He worked on merseysportlive.co.uk throughout his course, developing a live portfolio of mainly football content but other sports as well.
Through the site, he also gained accreditation from the FA to cover the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Manchester City – an experience he will never forget.
It looks like he’ll be back on Merseyside in March 2023 when Brentford make the trip to Goodison Park to face Everton.
