Plans for the expansion of Speke Retail Park have been revealed, including a new cinema on the site.
If the plans are agreed by the council, the expansion will create 1,000 jobs in construction and full and part-time work.
The scheme looks to make a number of enhancements to the park, with the aim of creating “a better retail and leisure environment”. It features a new multi-screen cinema and restaurants, enhanced shop frontages, an improved car park layout and better pedestrian access.
British Land, the property advisor for New Mersey Shopping Park, outlined the key benefits of the development in a public exhibition at the weekend.
Neil Ashcroft, New Mersey Shopping Park’s Centre Manager, said: “Our proposals provide a fantastic opportunity to continue the recent investment in, and regeneration of, the Speke area. Brand new leisure facilities in the form of a cinema and restaurants will transform the shopping park into an attractive retail and leisure destination for this area of the city.
“We are pleased to be working closely with Liverpool City Council’s in-house work service, ‘Liverpool in Work’ and the local Employment Agency to target new job and business opportunities for local people and businesses.”
British Land proposes to target the current issues facing Speke Retail Park, which they consider to be limited restaurant and leisure offerings, lack of customer facilities, inflexible retail space, weak pedestrian connectivity and poor car park configuration.
