A man from the Wirral is running 10 marathons in 10 days in order to raise money for a Liverpool children’s cancer charity.
John Hammond travelled to Leeds on Saturday to run in the first of 10 races and he hopes to complete his tenth in Telford on March 21st.
John, who lives in Oxton, has chosen to raise money for Liverpool CHICS – a charity which helps support families of children diagnosed with cancer.
He told JMU Journalism: “Unfortunately, my friend’s son has leukaemia and after speaking about raising money for him he suggested CHICS as they have helped him and his family a lot during what could be a very difficult time.”
Having completed seven marathons in seven days last year Mr Hammond sought to try and push himself further.
He said: “I originally booked to do nine marathons in nine days but changed it to 10 a few weeks ago, I knew I could push myself and to round it off to a nice even number.”
The 39-year-old has been running for four years and has set himself a personal target of running 100 marathons in his lifetime.
He originally aimed to raise £500, which was quickly exceeded and now donations have topped £1,000.
He continued: “I always set a low target and I’m made up with the amount of donations I have received. It’s nice to know that people are behind you are supporting the cause.”
