Two MA Sports Journalism graduates have been shortlisted for a national award.
Alex Smith and Jack Kinsella, who graduated from the 2021-22 course at LJMU, are two of just three to be shortlisted for “Student Project of the Year” in the 2022 NCTJ Awards for Excellence.
The NCTJ is the national accrediting body for journalism courses across the UK, accrediting more than 30 universities and private course providers.
Alex and Jack will attend a high-profile awards ceremony at Twickenham Stadium in London on March 2, 2023.
Jack’s project was a powerful video documentary on the impact rugby league club Widnes has had on its community over the past 40-50 years.
Alex produced a hard-hitting set of sports features on the barriers facing young people accessing high-level sport development pathways.
Jack now works as a full-time freelance videographer and photographer, recently working on ITV productions on Merseyside.
Alex is now a full-time trainee news and sports reporter with the Bournemouth Echo.
