Liverpool has been confirmed as the host city for Visit Britain’s flagship tourism event, ExploreGB in 2016.
ExploreGB is a new initiative which encourages British and Irish tourism suppliers the opportunity to do business with international travel buyers from more than 40 countries.
The inaugural event took place at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire last week and is said to have been a huge success.
The gathering saw 261 suppliers in the tourism trade meet with 250 overseas buyers to broker new business deals and increase international tourism across the UK.
Chris Brown, director of Marketing Liverpool, said: “I am delighted that Liverpool will host this prestigious event, it presents not only a fantastic opportunity for Liverpool but for the North of the country.”
He added: “You only need to look at the number and calibre of delegates at this year’s ExploreGB to understand its importance to the UK. We are delighted to be hosting this prestigious event in 2016, which presents not only a great opportunity for Liverpool but also for the north.
“We will work closely with VisitBritain to ensure we deliver an even bigger and more successful event.”
Sally Balcombe, chief executive at VisitBritain said: “We will not rest on our laurels and are already looking forward to growing, and taking Britain’s largest B2B event to the fantastic city of Liverpool in 2016.”
