Kerry Katona launched the city’s biggest fashion event this season as more than 650 people turned up to watch the former Atomic Kitten star open Liverpool Fashion Week.
‘I’m a Celebrity’ winner Katona opened the fashion extravaganza on Tuesday night at the Bambooo club in Duke Street, turning her hand to catwalk modelling as the new collections were unveiled.
Although Warrington’s Katona plans to launch her very own fashion line with New Look, people were baffled as to why she had been chosen to open such a huge event, considering her infamous fashion mishaps in the past.
However, Editor of Lifestyle magazine and organiser of Liverpool Fashion Week, Amanda Moss, told JMU Journalism: “She’s a North West celebrity – she’s local. She’s had a recent comeback and looks amazing. She’s had so many issues and she’s got through them… she’s like any of us.”
Kerry proved critics wrong as she strutted down the catwalk modelling two tight-fitted black dresses for Glam Boutique with a beaming smile on her face.
Amanda Moss also told us how the week has taken six months to organise and she has done it all by herself, contacting people through Facebook.
She admitted there was a delay as the catwalk arrived two hours late and ticket holders were left waiting outside
for an additional half an hour. Nevertheless, she is positive about the outcome: “I was involved with Liverpool Fashion Week last year and I felt I could make a better go of it, so I did.”
Five different designers showcased their autumn/winter collections, while upstairs at Bambooo a pop-up boutique was filled with stalls selling jewellery, clothing, handbags, hair extensions, art work and even teeth-whitening services.
High Street stores such as John Lewis, Monsoon, New Look, Miss Selfridge, Dorothy Perkins, Next and Debenhams will parade their autumn/winter 2010/11 collections on Thursday night.
Local and online boutiques like Peach Boutique and Cello Boutique will be showing off their collections on Wednesday and Saturday night resepectively.
Wednesday night also features collections from Liverpool’s biggest vintage fashion store ‘Raiders’ which is sure to have all the latest must-have classic pieces for the coming season. The audience will be entertained by a performance from budding RnB star Dretonio, who has supported such big name artists as Tinie Tempah.
On Friday October 22nd, after-show party guests can shop, shop, shop in the Moroccan inspired boutique fair, as stalls include hair accessories, jewellery, sunglasses and vintage couture.
A celeb filled after party will close the fashion event on Saturday (23rd) evening with the celebration hosted by Radio City’s Ric Vaughan.
Tickets are on sale now and prices start at £12 Tuesday-Friday, £25 Saturday, or you can get yourself a week-long pass for £50.
