Guy has more than 30 years of experience in the industry, 20 of which he was employed as a staff journalist for The Independent, the Independent on Sunday and the BBC. Before that he worked in regional and local newspapers.
He has reported on virtually every big sporting occasion including two Olympics, one football World Cup, a cricket World Cup and more than 30 Open Golf, Wimbledon Tennis and World Snooker Championships.
Guy has been a senior lecturer for 15 years, having worked for the Universities of Central Lancashire and Chester before he came to John Moores. At Chester he was Head of Media for four years, a department that comprised around 400 students and 32 staff teaching 10 diverse programmes.
Last year he complemented his BA (Hons) and MA in History by completing his PhD. The subject of his thesis was Manchester, its newspapers and the Luftwaffe’s Christmas Blitz of 1940, a study that incorporated his broader research interests: newspaper history, propaganda, press censorship and manufactured consent.
