JMU Journalism reporters found themselves under more pressure than usual this week as they put on a live newsday in front of Liverpool John Moores University’s board of governors.
The Faculty of Arts, Professional and Social Studies (APSS) welcomed LJMU’s governors to the John Lennon Art and Design Building as they formed part of the audience of around 20 people for the production on Monday evening.
The special showcase included a bulletin presented by third year students Coni Harpham and Adam Tiffen, alongside contributions from their colleagues who were working to tight deadlines on related news stories.
Mike Parker, Chair of the Board of Governors, and Andrew Ibi, Associate Dean for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, were among those present at the event.
Included alongside many news items, the bulletin displayed the partnership between LJMU and Merseyside Police and the Criminal Justice Board, with a video showing Chief Constable Serena Kennedy during her lecture at the same venue last week.
Senior broadcast lecturer Shirley Lewis, who led the production as part of the Advanced Journalism Production module, said: “I’m very proud of what the students achieved. This was the first time we have attempted what amounted to an outside broadcast, using our new technology.
“Their professionalism, teamwork and journalistic skills were a credit to them and to the School of Journalism.”
