Sefton Park Palm House teamed up with celebrity personal trainer, Maziar Ajtar, to support a 10-year-old’s heart-warming mission to raise funds for Alder Hey Children’s Charity.
George Mathias from St Helens, who set up the ‘Run with George’ campaign in a bid to thank the doctors who saved his younger brother’s life, completed a one-mile run around Sefton Park alongside Hollyoaks cast members, including Luke Jerdy and Amrit Maghera.
The mile-long stint, which started at the iconic Victorian glasshouse, represented George’s journey to complete one-mile for every month that his brother has been alive.
George’s little brother James, now aged six, was born prematurely as a baby and was in a coma, coming close to death. The doctors and nurses at Alder Hey Hospital saved his life and George is raising money to show his gratitude.

Rosemary Sorrell, Senior Events Manager at Sefton Park Palm House, said: “We can’t begin to express the pride and joy we feel to have backed such an amazing cause. George is a truly inspirational young boy.”
She added: “Having teamed up with the highly regarded personal trainer, Maziar Ajtar, who has become known locally for his celebrity clientele, we are so grateful how he rallied the runners and got Hollyoaks actors and actresses on board. A massive well-done goes to everyone who took part.”
Mr Ajtar told JMU Journalism: “It’s a great idea from George and I was so pleased to be a part of it. I’m running the Liverpool Vitality Half Marathon next weekend so it was great to intertwine our marathon with George.”
George has already ran with other celebrity guests on his journey including Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Jon Wilkin.
