A top documentary-maker who works alongside Louis Theroux took time out of her busy schedule to talk to Journalism and Sports Journalism students at LJMU.
Layla Wright, who is from Liverpool, has recently returned from the United States, where she was filming ‘America’s New Female Right’ with Mindhouse productions for BBC 3.
She was one of four industry experts who came to answer students’ questions alongside fellow guest speakers the BBC’s Kirstie Brewer, Harriet Prior from Sky Sports and James Pearce, who writes for the Athletic.
The four professionals were quizzed on all aspects of their work and the industry, from whether a documentary presenter has any say on the final edit, to tips on getting their first job. One thing all panellists agreed on was that the students should “back themselves” and have confidence in what can be a competitive industry.
Senior lecturer at LJMU, Polly Sharpe, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to network with industry experts at the top of their game.
“The questions they asked provided some really interesting discussions and insights, and hopefully this event has helped inspire the next generation of journalists.”
