Liverpool singer Christopher Maloney has survived for another week as the public voted for him to stay on X Factor, but he is not without his critics on the show.
Last night, the judges gave a mixed review of his performance of Heart song ‘Alone’ – having called him “too cheesy” last week with judge Louis Walsh also branding him a “backstage diva”.
Judge Nicole Scherzinger said: “I’ll take the cheeseburger as long as it’s filled with a performance that shows the song means something to you and you did that. It was effortless.”
Tulisa was not as kind about the Liverpool Mutual Homes worker, saying: “Your voice is so strong, but it doesn’t feel current.”
Walsh was harsher still, telling the 34-year-old: “It was very cruise ship; very cabaret. It was a lazy song choice, and that little bit too cheesy for me.”
Maloney’s mentor, Gary Barlow, defended his act saying: “Don’t listen to these guys. You are perfect just as you are.”
The Liverpudlian responded to the comments about his song choice, saying that he and Barlow decided that ‘Alone’ would be the “perfect song for this week’s love and heartbreak theme”.
The Sunday results show also saw former X Factor runner up Rebecca Ferguson perform her new single, ‘Backtrack’. She said she was supporting Christopher Maloney, as he was a fellow Scouser.
Maloney will sing in the Club Classics themed X Factor show next week.
