Coleen Rooney, Fearne Cotton, Holly Willoughby, Jameela Jamil and Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen are among the first celebrities to donate to this year’s ‘Clothes Throw’, in aid of Liverpool’s Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
The clothes throw centres around an exclusive auction where stars from the worlds of entertainment and fashion donate stylish outfits to raise much-needed funds for Alder Hey. Other donations have come from high-profile celebrities, including Twiggy, Vivienne Westwood and Paloma Faith .
Singer Paloma Faith said: “I’m utterly excited to be taking part in the clothes throw again and I’ve donated my effervescent green glittery heels which I wore to death. I hope the clothes throw raises lots of cash for the children in Alder Hey Hospital, who are all little sweethearts.”
Coleen Rooney, who is fronting the Clothes Throw 2012 campaign, said: “I am delighted to be helping Alder Hey Children’s Hospital with their annual clothes throw. This is a cause very close to my heart and I’m hoping everyone can get behind this great campaign to make use of the things we all have in our wardrobes which we no longer need and raise much-needed funds for the UK’s busiest children’s hospital at the same time.”
Alder Hey Children’s charity is encouraging everyone to get involved with the clothes throw in a number of ways; including holding fundraising parties at home, selling their unwanted items online through eBay and buying unwanted garments from each other.
Alder Hey is the busiest children’s hospital in the UK caring for 270,000 children and young patients each year. The groundbreaking research and world-class care that the hospital provides could not continue without support, and Alder Hey has been fortunate enough to benefit from the support of fellow Liverpool-based brand, Littlewoods, for a number of years.
In 2004, the retail giant donated funds for the £2.25 million Littlewoods Neurosciences Unit opened by Wayne and Coleen Rooney. The owners of Littlewoods subsequently funded Europe’s first 3T Intra-Operative MRI scanner at Alder Hey with a donation of £3million, opened by His Royal Highness, Prince William in February 2010.
Littlewoods is supporting the clothes throw this year, and brand director Gary Kibble said: “As a Liverpool-based fashion retailer with families and children at the heart of our brand, this charity tie-up is the perfect fit for us. We can’t wait to see more donations rolling in.”
The majority of the celebrity donations, including Paloma Faith’s shoes, will be auctioned online between October 30th and November 30th. A selection of prestigious items, such as Coleen Rooney’s own Philip Armstrong dress, will be auctioned on a catwalk at ‘The Clothes Throw Live Auction’ flagship event on 15th November in Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral.
