Steve joined the Journalism department in 2008, having spent most of his working life as a journalist at the Liverpool Daily Post and Echo.
An Oxford graduate in English, Steve began his career at the Winsford Guardian in 1983 before moving to the Post and Echo in 1986, where he was variously a reporter, sub editor/page designer and online editor.
He was Online Content Manager for Trinity Mirror’s North West disivion, and his last role there was as Assistant Editor (Digital), responsible for running the websites of both the daily titles.
Steve lectures in online journalism and he is the Website Director of JMU Journalism: Liverpool Life.
He also has an interest in newsroom numeracy – so much so, that he completed a BSc in Mathematics with the Open University in 2009. He is researching the issue of numeracy and journalism education, as well as carrying out research into social media and journalism.
Steve is the Teaching and Learning Co-ordinator for Liverpool Screen School, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
