Thousands of runners will descend on Merseyside this weekend when the 2012 RunLiverpool Marathon is held across the city.
Runners will set off from Birkenhead Park at 9.30am on Sunday 14th October and eventually finish at the end of Mann Island.
The RunWirral 10K has been added to the Marathon event and around 3,000 entrants are expected to take part in this brand new event.
Marathon and 10K runners will mingle in Birkenhead Park on race morning and set off at the same time, although the two groups will split with the 10K runners enjoying the first 6.2 miles of the marathon course. They will then reach their own finish line on Coastal Drive in New Brighton.
From around 4am on race morning a traffic management plan will be put in place for the safety and consideration of runners and those using roads near to the marathon route.
From then onwards various roads across the Wirral will be closed throughout the morning as runners head towards Liverpool for the second half of the marathon.
With a rolling programme of road openings, it is expected that all Wirral roads will be functioning as normal by around midday.
In Liverpool, Great Howard Street and the waterfront roads through to Parliament Street, Upper Parliament Street and then Princes Road / Avenue and roads surrounding Sefton Park will be used as the race enters the city.
Roads along the Liverpool part of the course will be closed around 9am ahead of the event safety check and after this time it will not be possible to travel along any of the roads listed.
It is expected that waterfront roads will re-open from 4pm.
