A former LJMU Journalism student has fought off competition from thousands of applicants to be named one of this years Reuters News Interns.
Josef Al Shemary graduated from the NCTJ-accredited MA (Journalism) course last year. He is one of 12 interns named globally, with more than 700 applicants per internship.
Over the course of the next three months, Josef will be gaining hands-on experience in reporting, writing, photography, video journalism, data reporting and producing content that reaches a global audience via Reuters, via the world’s largest international multimedia news agency.
Josef said: “I’m beyond delighted to have been selected for the Reuters News Internship programme, and I’m very excited to work on the Audience Team. My role is to work closely with all the teams that make up the newsroom to make sure the excellent journalism being done at Reuters reaches the right audiences in the right ways.”
He added: “While I am still discovering the ins and outs of such a modern, forward-facing team at the Reuters newsroom, the MA Journalism programme at LJMU gave me an excellent foundation to understand these ongoing developments in journalism, and the ability to adapt to them.”
