A new charity art exhibition featuring works by the likes of Mighty Boosh star Noel Fielding, famous artist Sir Peter Blake and the wife of the late John Lennon, Yoko Ono, has been launched at the Museum of Liverpool.
The show, entitled ‘Liverpool Love’, will eventually auction pieces off, with the proceeds split and the lion’s share will go to Claire House children’s hospice, and the remainder going to National Museums Liverpool.
The exhibition has been curated by Wirral-born artist, Christian Furr, and charitable art fundraiser, Vaughan Davies, with the pieces being inspired by the city of Liverpool.
Vaughan Davies, who knew Beatles legend Lennon in the 1960s, told JMU Journalism: “To think that the wife of John Lennon has done a painting for this is quite moving. I wanted to do an exhibition, and sell art for the benefit of a local charity.
“We’ve got some of the most famous, emerging artists in Liverpool, if not the world.”
He also said in a letter to Liverpool Love: “The original idea I had of showcasing celebrity art for the wider public for the benefit of charities could not have been made possible without the collaboration Christian Furr.”
There are also three pieces from three brothers who have Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), twins Dan and Sam Lloyd, 17, and younger brother Tom, 14, who have visited Claire House for support with their condition.
Helen Carlson, northern area fundraising manager of Claire House children’s hospice, told JMU Journalism: “Liverpool Love is an inspirational collaboration that Claire House is proud and honoured to be associated with. The exhibition truly captures the spirit of Liverpool and the very fact it’s raising money for our local children is again symbolic of Liverpool and its big heart.
A gala auction of the pieces will take place on 17th November.
