Plans for an urban farm and community hub in the Baltic Triangle have been accepted by Liverpool City Council.
George Street Developments are behind the proposals for the Chinatown location close to Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral as they will use part of the site for food production for two years. After this period, the plot will be transformed into offices, public space, 450 apartments and shops.
The plot, which is located behind The Wedding House in Great George Place, have been earmarked for 450 apartments as part of a scheme by Great George Street Developments, whose plans to build new homes were approved back in December.
The development had caused strong objections from both of Liverpool Cathedrals as the local skyline would be spoiled.

Celia Simms, who visits Liverpool Cathedral often, told JMU Journalism: “The development of the new homes would have ruined the view from the cathedral. There are plenty of apartments being built, I can’t imagine why we need more. I think the idea of an urban farm would be brilliant, it would bring something new to the city.”
Dr Paul Myers, co-founder of Farm Urban, said: “We would like to involve the community as much as possible with the development and the operation of the farm.
“Our vision is to create a socially-transformative, community-embedded urban farm and cultural events space that connects our local community, builds a local food network, fills homes with fresh local food and creates engaging and meaningful jobs.”
