Tasty treats and homemade goods were flying off the shelves as a makers’ market came to Mossley Hill for the first time.
Many locals travelled to The Church of St Matthew and St James on Saturday to sample the broad range of items on offer.
A makers’ market is essentially independent business owners coming together to introduce their arts and crafts and homemade specialities.
With more than 30 different stallholders, visitors were spoilt for choice. Stalls ranged from homeware to clothing, and jewellery to art, along with some sweet and savoury bites to eat along the way.
Consecrated in 1875, the church had hardly changed until it recently underwent renovations to allow flexibility within the main hall where the market was held.

With stained glass windows on the east and west ends, a cafe inside and a place to leave your dogs, the Mossley Hill church was busy with numerous customers.
Joanne James, a Handyman Brewery representative told JMU Journalism: “These markets are a valuable marketing tool to help small independent business like ourselves to reach a new customer base and raise awareness of our product and brand.
“The personal touch still goes a long way and even if you don’t get a sale on the day you may get one in the future by simply chatting to the customer. It also helps money to stay local.”
Other stallholders were in attendance, including Bean There Coffee, selling savoury bakes such as sausage rolls and their original ground coffee.
If something a little Sweeter tickled your fancy, Fudgemental were there to provide you with their rage of fudge, brownies and sponges.
For all those who did not get to attend this event, organisers say that judging on the success of Saturday’s market, it is sure to return at some point in the future.
