International Women’s Day was celebrated at Liverpool John Moores University with its first fair to mark the occasion.
The event, held in collaboration with RB Music Management, was open for all ages and genders, featuring temporary tattoos, glitter makeover stations and plenty of performances to enjoy.
Activities included a drag king show, poetry readings, singers and dancers.
There was a place within the fair where women could drop off their own unloved bra to be recycled.
LJMU Feminist Society members were in attendance, in the company of local and inspiring businesses and societies, including Mooncup Theatre, Liverpool Rollerbirds and Future Boss Club.
A member of the Liverpool Rollerbirds, Rowena Garvie, told JMU Journalism: “We chose to come to this event as we wanted to do something to support women – anything to make women more confident. I want to be surrounded by strong women.”

The fair designed to be explore what it is to be female, raising awareness of the places women can go to feel safe and get the guidance they might need.
Event organiser and President of the Student Union, Angelica Cliff, said: “I feel like the university does a lot of stuff for like diversity things, but I haven’t seen anything that has been specifically for International Women’s Day before. So I really wanted to do something for it, but I wanted it to be quite wholesome and welcoming. I wanted it to look cute.
“We booked the space for the day and the music label RB Management booked the space in the evening, so I thought that we should do a thing together for the whole day.
“I brought along the theatre companies as I work with one of them, Ugly Bucket, and thought they would be a perfect fit. I am hoping that this event is something that will be continued, hopefully in the future by the new president next year.”
