Locals are saddling up to put their faith in pedal power to help restore a popular recreation centre which is in need of repair.
Tranmere Rovers in the Community (TRIC)’s has organised a 24-hour static cycling challenge to help raise money for its ‘Raise the Roof’ campaign to repair the centre which is on the site of the club’s ground in Prenton Park.
The facility is open seven days a week, but when there is a downpour it cannot open due to the roof having a severe leak.
The regular indoor activities held at the centre have been constantly cancelled due to the weather affecting the inside.
The facility has been a part of the community for more than 30 years and it is used by children, adults and senior citizens.

By February, it was announced that the campaign has helped raise £10,620 in 56 days but more money is needed to ensure that the Recreation Centre stays open.
The 24-hour static cycle at Rovers Solar Campus training ground will take place on Friday April 12th at 1pm and will end the following day.
The challenge is open to cycling clubs, other local fundraisers and anyone who wants to support the campaign. All participating members will swap and change shifts on the bikes through the 24-hour period.
Towards the end of the cycle, the riders will be supported by the community staff and the club itself.
Dawn Tolcher, who has been Managing director Tranmere Rovers in the Community since 2015, said: “The support we have received so far has been fantastic, but we are still a long way off our target as the roof is in a dire state and we are so close to having to shut the facility down for good.”
