A delegation from JMU Journalism visited London for the third year running this weekend, with students of text and broadcast attending either The Guardian headquarters or Sky News.
The trip gave students an insider’s view of how the industry works, with plenty of advice from Guardian reporter, Aamna Mohdin, and the Head of Sky News Output, Neil Dunwoodie.
Student Seanan McSheffrey said: “It was really good to go to London and see how a professional news outlet such as The Guardian works.
“I think the experience will definitely help me later on in life as I feel more knowledgeable about what to expect in real-life journalism.”

Broadcast students enjoyed a guided tour around the Sky News Headquarters in Isleworth.
Daniel Boal was one of those who went along to West London, saying: “I really enjoyed going to Sky News. It was a really good experience seeing how they work on a day to day basis.
“The trip really gave me a good idea of what I’m going to be doing when I graduate. It was really interesting to see an actual news room, I didn’t expect it to be like that.”
Sarah Toner also found the Sky News tour a valuable experience, saying: “It really gave me an insight into what employers are looking for from me. It was also good fun getting to know people on my course a lot better.”
The overnight visit included some free time, with Covent Garden, Leicester Square and Camden Market among the places that the students visited.
The third years gathered at Euston station on Saturday afternoon to return to Liverpool, tired but pleased with their journey to the capital.
