The countdown to Christmas came to Crosby with the annual festive lights switch-on on Saturday night.
Large crowds gathered in the village to see the evening’s festivities, which included fairground rides for children, food stalls and entertainment, with a number of performances from groups in the community.
Although some locals expressed unhappiness online with the thinness of the tree, people who visited the switch-on show appeared to be in good spirits.
The event began with a performance by Waterloo and Crosby Theatre Company with a selection of songs from their upcoming Christmas pantomime, Cinderella. Liverpool Ceilidh Band played Scottish, Irish and English folk music, along with some seasonal classics like ‘Jingle Bells.’

‘In Another Place’ Gospel Choir switched on the Christmas lights before giving a very upbeat performance. Liverpool Inspirational Voices, a choir made up of visually-impaired adults, also gave a very moving rendition of some Christmas carols.
Members of Crosby Rotary Club were down in the village joined by Santa and his sleigh. They collect money to help support families in crisis and also support other local charities.
Christine Eaglesfield of the Rotary Club, 55, from Crosby told JMU Journalism: “We’re really looking forward to the Christmas lights switch-on, we come every year.
“We like to be around a lot in the community and get involved with any local events that are happening to collect money and spread the word about what we do here and how we can help.”
Santa’s float belonging to the Rotary Club is now 50 years old this year, and the club has been around for 80 years.
As the show came to a close, the crowds dispersed into local bars and restaurants with smiles on their faces and feeling the Christmas cheer.
