Cotton Street is making way for a new market which aims to transform an old derelict warehouse into a creative events space.
The scheme, which is part of The Ten Streets Project, is opening in shadow of the Heritage Market amid plans to rejuvenate the rundown North Docks area into a ‘cultural enterprise industry hub’.
Tina Kavanagh, after years of experience in the housing sector, teamed up with daughter Georgia, who previously owned a lady’s boutique, to set up the project.
Tina, who is a local entrepreneur, told JMU Journalism how they decided the area needed a place where different creative businesses could come together and new firms could blossom.
She said: “We felt there was gap in what was being offered within Liverpool. We wanted to create a place that was more family-orientated, but also aimed at the arts and artisan, and we felt like there should be place for people to share those spaces together.
“There are already creative businesses here and we felt that it could bridge the gap between them, so we’ve got the workshops but also direct market to sell things, so it provides a whole environment where there will be something for everyone.”

The Ten Streets Market will feature a variety of more than 25 stalls, ranging from art, fashion, clothes and furniture whilst also providing studios and craft rooms for hire and film and photo shoot facilities.
Georgia said: “I think it will inspire other businesses too, because when they see someone take a chance then they might as well. It’s a slightly different flavour to the Heritage Market and is much more family-orientated, with arts and crafts workshops that are for both adults and children, so they can bond with family and create memories together.”
They mentioned how the market will provide a “bricks and mortar” space to allow creatives who may sell online to present their products directly to locals.
Georgia added: “We’re already planning events. We are going to be hosting cinema nights and also vegan and dog events soon.
“For Christmas we are planning a mini gin event and something similar for Valentine’s day, with sharing boards and Prosseco.”
The soft opening will be on November 30th and the market will be officially open to the public the next day, December 1st.
