A new ferry terminal for ships heading to the Isle of Man will be opening up on Liverpool’s waterfront by 2021.
Set to be based at the Pier Head by Princes Half-Tide Dock, the terminal is estimated to cost up to £30m as part of the city’s waterfront regeneration.
The Isle of Man Government recently gained approval to buy out the Steam Packet Company (IoMSPC) and now plans to sign a long-term agreement with Peel Land and Property Limited for the site.
This comes as a part of the ‘Liverpool Waters’ scheme that is an ambitious 30-year vision to transform the city’s northern docks.
Infrastructure minister, Ray Harmer said: “I very much look forward to our development being a key part of the exciting Liverpool Waters scheme. The Isle of Man Government now has complete control over its lifeline sea links to the United Kingdom.”

The new terminal is expected to have improved highway access as part of Liverpool City Council’s City Centre Connectivity. The project aims to make it easier for people to walk and cycle around towwn and, in lieu of the new ferry terminal being built, the council may find it easier to cut The Strand down to five lanes.
The Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, said: “The new Isle of Man Terminal is a critical piece in our regeneration plans for the north shore of Liverpool. This new ferry terminal will cement our strong links and forge even closer ties into the future.”
