Liverpool’s Exhibition Centre was transformed into a world of bliss for comic book, sci-fi and Marvel fans as Comic Con returned to the city.
For two days, the centre was packed with sets and props from famous films, classical arcade games, traders as well as an all-star line-up for signings, photographs and autographs.
Some of the famous celebrities included names like ‘Mini Me’ star, Verne Troyer, the original Hulk Lou Ferrigno, WWE wrestler Adam Copeland, A Team actor Dirk Benedict and many more.
Also on the panel was wrestling legend, Gail Kim, who was firmly flying the flag for strong independent women role models, while Liverpool’s very own Dr Who, Paul McGann, enjoyed catching up with fans.
Brand new this year was a dedicated Gaming Zone which had more than 40 free retro arcade games to battle for the leaderboard top spot, including Street Fighter, Space Invaders, Pac-Man among others.

The traders’ section comprised of mountains of artwork, comic books, merchandise, with around 40% said to have been sourced in the North West.
Gail Beck, stallholder at the event told JMU Journalism: “I think this event is really important for Liverpool. It’s very exciting visually to see what’s here. We’ve brought some American people over, like Dirk Benedict and Lou Ferrigno.
“I think it’s very good for the economy and everyone is having a really good time.”
Initially, national company MCM announced it was dropping the popular event from Liverpool in its nationwide tour. However, local event organiser and comic con fan, Andrew Kleek decided to stage the event independently.
The Albert Dock held an official After-Party at Revolucion De Cuba as hundreds of cosplayers and fans joined for a night of cocktails and movie music.
After producing a successful family-friendly convention, Comic Con is said to run again in Liverpool next year.
