The Liverpool-based charity which aims to take in and rehome stray dogs has benefitted from a cash injection to assist in furthering its work.
Merseyside Dogs Home has received more than £7,000 from Support Adoption for Pets, the UK’s largest grant giving animal charity, to help to purchase equipment to care for the animals.
Amy Wilson, Fundraising Manager at Support Adoption For Pets, said: “It is a real privilege to help an organisation that works so hard to care for and re-home dogs in need. They are doing a superb job, and the effort the rescue puts in is an inspiration.”
Support Adoption For Pets is an independent charity established by Pets at Home in 2006. Since then it has helped over 1,000 re-homing centres and animal welfare organisations across the UK. In addition to its fundraising work, it also runs dedicated adoption centres in over 440 Pets at Home stores.
Angela Carrigan, a fundraiser for Merseyside Dogs Home, told JMU Journalism, “We tend to have roughly 60 dogs in kennels and around 35 ready to go into new homes.
“We ensure that all of our dogs are vet-checked, flead and wormed. Understandably, this is not cheap, so this generous donation has been a real help.
“This donation from Support Adoption for Pets is absolutely fantastic and we are all so grateful. The money really will go a long way and just seeing the improvements in the dog’s health and wellbeing makes all the hard work worth it. We couldn’t be happier.”

Each year, a number of the dogs are gifted as assistance pets to families that need them and occasionally one goes to the service sector for training in scent or defence.
The charity still urges the public to give any donations that they could use – from money, hot dog tins to old towels – and this can be arranged via its website.
