A 24-hour football match is to take place at the University of Chester on Saturday to raise money for a Liverpool-based charity.
Staff and students of the Warrington campus will take part from 3pm on Saturday afternoon until the same on time Sunday afternoon, with the aim of raising £1,000.
All proceeds will be given the Chasing the Stigma mental health charity which has its office on James Street in Liverpool.
The epic effort has been welcomed by Liverpool comedian Jake Mills, who is behind the charity after becoming an influential figure in campaigning about mental health issues after speaking publicly about his own battle with depression.
Jake said: “I am absolutely delighted that students and staff at the University of Chester have chosen Chasing the Stigma as the beneficiary of this year’s 24-hour fundraising football game. Obviously this is a great opportunity for Chasing the Stigma, but more importantly this is a fantastic way of getting both staff and students to talk about mental health.”
Dean McShane, Mental Health Lecturer at the university, told JMU Journalism: “Chasing the Stigma do some great work. The recently-released ‘Hub of Hope’ is a fantastic digital platform in which people can locate their nearest services and support, as well as national organisations.

“We feel that by doing such an event it also highlights the positive effects physical health, such as football, can have on your mental health.”
This is the second year that a 24-hour match has been held at the university. One of the people instrumental in making it is Jake Edwards, Fitness Instructor and football coach at the Warrington ..
He said: “I was really proud to see more than 100 staff and student members come together to take part last year. This year we are looking to make the event even better and to raise as much money and awareness as possible for ‘Chasing the Stigma’.”
