Halloween Lantern Carnival lights up the city

The Halloween Lantern Carnival lit up the streets of Liverpool as it made its way to the Albert Dock on Sunday night.

Skeletons from The Bare Bones Tour, eyeballs, owls and many more otherworldly creatures paraded through the city centre. Dancing, marching and drumming commenced from Hardman Street, passing through Bold, Church and Paradise Streets down to the waterfront for its conclusion.

The multicoloured display, put on by The Lantern Company, consisted of large, manually-operated, lanterns that rattled past the crowds of spectators lining the route. Police officers walked with the parade, clearing the way for a safe passage.

The lanterns interacted with the audience, as the owls swooped over peoples’ heads, alien-like creatures bounced around and brightly lit giants danced with the children.

Traffic was brought to a standstill at the Albert Dock, where the creatures crossed the Strand to disappear into the distance.

The carnival was made possible by a partnership between The Lantern Company, Albert Dock Liverpool, Culture Liverpool, and Liverpool BID Company.

Together they worked with local performing arts groups, bands and colleges to put on the large-scale free event.

There was a lot of build-up to this public attraction on the days leading up to the spectacle, with workshops put on for children to make their own lanterns and masks.

Some were seen in the show will now be on display at the Albert Dock until November 5th. The Lantern Company will be a part of the pre-show for The River of Light music and firework spectacular held this weekend.
