Merseyrail has made changes to its Wirral train line timetable after the service has been subject to delays due to technical faults and the recent closure of Lime Street Station.
The travel operator is currently responding to a series of problems, including track faults caused by falling leaves, infrastructure failures and busier trains with the upgrade work of Lime Street recently beginning.
Trains from Chester will depart the station earlier than usually timetabled, but will subsequently arrive in Liverpool later than normal. However, trains to Chester will depart Liverpool Central Station at the same time as is currently scheduled, but will arrive later into town.
Merseyrail issued a statement expressing its disappointment in the recent failures, offering explanations as to how this will be improved.

Jan Chaudhry-van der Velde, Merseyrail’s managing director, admitted: “We recognise that recently, Wirral Line train performance has not been as good as it should be.
“We have worked with Network Rail and Merseytravel over the last few days to make changes which will add some resilience to the timetable in the short-term.
“This is designed to reduce the number of times trains have to miss stops to get them back in their timetable slots, providing a more predictable service for Wirral Line passengers.”
With Lime Street Station moving forward with its upgrade, significant disruption to the mainline services is expected, with many passengers are terminating their journeys at outlying stations, such as Liverpool South Parkway.
Phase one of the upgrade is estimated to be completed by October 22nd, with plans to then follow this with further work to improve the station in order to enable an extra three services in and out per hour.
