The Brain Charity Liverpool hosted their annual ‘Head Matters Tea Party’ to mark Brain Awareness Week.
The event, which took place at the charity’s Norton Street base on Wednesday, saw around 200 visitors attend over the course of the day, the theme of which was ‘the five senses’.
Nanette Mellor, Chief Executive Officer of the organisation, told JMU Journalism: “The Brain Charity is a national charity based in Liverpool and we offer help to anyone with any neurological condition such as strokes, brain injuries or brain haemorrhages.
“We offer emotional, practical and social support and have 80 volunteers here who help with lots of social activities, such as craft clubs, days out and events like today.”
The tea party saw lots of local organisations come together and offer various free services, including eye, hearing and blood tests, information on different conditions and presentations by senior consultants at The Walton Clinic.
Nanette added: “The idea is that everyone from local services are invited into the building to talk about how they can help. The whole day is built around our service users getting the information that will benefit them within their own lives.”

Volunteer Sarah Oldnall told JMU Journalism: “We put this tea party on every year during Brain Awareness week to showcase what we do as a charity. People from all over the UK come along, for example today we’ve had visitors from London, Preston and Wales as they don’t have any services like this available closer to home.”
Services from Liverpool and the surrounding areas such as the North West Ataxia Support Group and the Brain Haemorrhage Support Group were on hand at the tea party to offer their information and care.
The day drew to a close with a performance by The Brain Charity Choir, who sang a Swahili song and a joyful rendition of ‘Mr Sandman.’
