Thousands of sci-fi fantasy fans descended on Liverpool this weekend to celebrate the city’s second MCM Comic Con.
The two-day event, which took place at the Exhibition Centre, brought together ‘cosplayers’, gamers, sci-fi and comic enthusiasts.
With the chance to meet their pop culture idols, fans braved the long queues to gather photographs and autographs from their favourite actors.
Regional Event Manager, Danny Aindow, told JMU Journalism: “Comic Con has a really good crowd of geek fans and in terms of talent Liverpool is like the home of home grown talent, with The Beatles.
“Comic Con is a place where it is okay to let your inner geek out. Geek used to be a negative connotation and now it is not at all. It is a place to come and let your freak-flag fly, but in a really positive way.

“Liverpool has such a fun loving group of people and they love to laugh and love to have a good time.
“There is a real desire to meet the celebrity guests in Liverpool, so we brought the show here last year for the first time. It was a huge success and so we came back and hopefully we will keep coming back.”
MCM Comic Con welcomed Flash Gordon’s actor, Sam Jones, plus David Soul, Paul Michael Glaser and Antonio Fargas from Starsky and Hutch.
Joining them were Red Dwarf actors, Chris Barrie and Danny John Jules, among other celebrities.
Flash Gordon star Jones, told JMU Journalism: “It is an opportunity for the first time to listen to and meet with the fans face-to-face.
“The people [of Liverpool] are very good and it is a great turn out. The other night I visited The Cavern, where The Beatles preformed, and it was so crowded. It was only 5 o’clock at night and you couldn’t even walk.”
