Brendan Rodgers oversaw a significant clear-out at Liverpool on transfer deadline day, with record signing Andy Carroll the most high-profile player to leave Anfield.
Bought from Newcastle United in January 2011 for £35million, Carroll struggled to produce his best form in a red shirt, scoring 11 times in 58 appearances.
The 23-year-old did score in both the FA Cup semi-final and final towards the end of the 2011/12 campaign but Rodgers welcomed offers for the striker throughout the summer.
West Ham United proved to be the preferred destination, with Carroll joining the London club on loan for the duration of the season.
Following Carroll out of Anfield were midfielders Jay Spearing and Charlie Adam. Spearing, a product of the club’s youth academy, joined Bolton Wanderers on a temporary basis, while Adam left for Stoke City permanently.
Nathan Eccleston was also sold to Blackpool. Despite those deals, the Reds failed to secure any incomings on a disappointing final day of the transfer window for Liverpool supporters expecting reinforcements.
An agreement could not be reached with Fulham for long-time target Clint Dempsey, who eventually joined Tottenham Hotspur, while a proposed loan deal for Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge did not come to fruition.

German starlet Samed Yesil was brought in from Bayer Leverkusen as a prospect for the future, but Rodgers was left with just two recognised first-team forwards in Fabio Borini and Luis Suarez.
The final 24 hours of the window encapsulated what has at times been a difficult summer for the new boss, who struggled to offload unwanted players and missed out on several targets.
Midfielder Nuri Sahin arrived on loan from Real Madrid last week, joining Borini, Joe Allen and Oussama Assaidi in Rodgers’ first batch of signings as Liverpool manager.
Focus now turns to facing Arsenal on Sunday in the Premier League, with the Reds looking for their first victory in the top flight this season, following a 3-0 defeat by West Bromwich Albion and a 2-2 draw with Manchester City.
Qualification for the UEFA Europa League group stage was secured on Thursday after a 1-1 draw against Hearts, and Liverpool were drawn alongside Anzhi Makhachkala, Udinese and Young Boys for the competition proper.
