Families gathered to take part in a free story time event to help encourage child literacy.
The event at SARA Hall in Mossley Hill on Saturday was help foster a desire among the local youths to get a passion for books and to read more.
Liverpool city councillor, Emily Spurrell, said: “The Mossley Hill councillors had decided that children’s literacy was going to be a priority for us for the past couple of years. We just thought we’d try it.
“This is the third event that we’ve done in Mossley Hill and the response has been really positive. People seem to love the stories and the music and the games and stuff so we thought we’d put another one on.”
The third event of its kind this year, each one has a specific theme, with Saturday’s being farm animals. Story time also featured a range of songs, stories and activities for the children to engage in, including classic tales Jack and the Bean Stalk and The Gingerbread Man.

Jude Lennon, who is behind Little Lamb Tales, has been a professional children’s author and storyteller for three years, having been writing books throughout her teaching career prior to that.
She said: “I think it’s a nice way to bring people together in a nice, dry space especially with the weather like today. For the children I think it’s very lovely for them to come and see fun things happening with words and books and stories and rhymes.”
“The younger the children are exposed to rhymes the more proficient they will be at school with their reading so it’s really important for them.”
