The final Hillsborough memorial service will be held at Anfield on April 15th this year – the 27th anniversary of the disaster.
Hillsborough Family Support Group chairman Margaret Aspinall said this would provide “closure”, when she announced a unanimous decision on behalf of the HFSG early in 2016.
Mrs Aspinall told the Liverpool Echo: “I think we need to draw a line under it. We’ve had the new inquests and the families always wanted to keep the services going for as long as it took to get the old inquests quashed and get new ones. We’ve done that and I think it’s the right time now to draw a line.”
JMU Journalism has been covering the annual event since the 20th anniversary, when Government minister, Andy Burnham, felt the full fury of the Kop’s angry cries of: “Justice for the 96!”
