Final year Drama students at Liverpool John Moores University have set up a theatre festival to showcase their original works, as well as the classic horror story of Frankenstein.
The Makin Theatre Festival starts on Monday February 29th and features five shows, four of which are original and exclusive.
The premiere of the festival is T H E M, a gritty, compelling and surreal reflection on the British justice system, based on true stories. Catch T H E M at the Joe H Makin Theatre on March 2nd and 3rd at 7:30 pm.
The other shows include a twisted murder mystery, an adaptation of Frankenstein and a couple of comedies to offer a lighter contrast.
Lew Llewellyn, LJMU Drama Programme Leader, said: “May this Festival of new work break all the legs of the curtain ratchets and be a credit to our final year students.
“As the sun sets over my final year as Head of Drama, it prefigures the dawning of the new in the shape of the final acts of the Year of 2016.”
Makin Theatre Fringe will run alongside the festival, taking place on Monday February 29th to Friday March 18th, at venues throughout the city, including The Unity Theatre and Frederick’s, and will be a showcase for new and experimental theatre.
In collaboration with DaDa Fest and Liverpool Acoustic Festival, the fringe event will also host a variety of pop-up style theatre throughout Liverpool, taking out-of-the ordinary performances from the drama spaces into the most surprising of places.
