An unlucky-in-love Southport man is taking matters into his own hands to bag himself his first date and find love.
Paul Barry made headlines last February after he held up a sign pleading for dates on Lord Street. It caught the eye of Juice FM who held a city wide search to find him a lucky woman.
With their help, a Valentine’s date was found for Paul, but he was rejected after being late for the screening of the film 50 Shades of Grey.
Barry’s latest conquest was a kiss-a-thon booth which saw him selling kisses for £1 on Chapel Street last Sunday. Expecting more for his efforts, with proceeds going to the Freshfield Animal Rescue, he only managed to raise £3.60, even after dropping his kiss price to 25p.
There was only one woman who actually wanted a kiss in exchange for a donation. A film-maker has been recording Paul’s romantic mission for a film entitled ‘Tragedy + Paul Barry’, as he explained.
“My friend was making a documentary about me, I hadn’t found a date for Valentine’s Day and never had a date ever, so I thought I’d take to the streets of Southport,” Barry said.
“I’m not really the type of guy who would approach a girl or get noticed so I’d thought I’d try the sign, someone took a picture and the next thing I knew it went viral, and I ended up on Juice FM.
“I got date but accidentally turned up late so it could of gone better, I think. Hopefully I’ll find a date but right now it looks like a quiet night in”
While Barry is still optimistic in finding a date he remains on Tinder until then.
