A man with a passion for pizza has fulfilled his ambition to taste his favourite dish in 30 different countries before his 30th birthday.
Phil Duncan, 28, started travelling whilst studying Sports Development at LJMU, and he set his sights on a culinary quest to taste pizzas from around the world and he recently completed his challenge while in Hungary.
He told JMU Journalism: “I love pizza so I’m just curious what it tastes like in different places around the world. I started going on holiday to amazing foreign places and realised how much it helped me develop and understand different cultures.
“I would use my student loan to go on trips rather than spending it out clubbing.”
Originally from Liverpool, Phil is currently living in the United States and he takes a few little trips throughout the year and then a big holiday where he visits a few different countries at the same time. As a qualified PE teacher, Phil makes money on his travels by coaching children’s football
Amongst the places Phil has travelled are Thailand, Mexico and Namibia, but it’s Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro that has made a lasting impression.
Upon landing he decided to climb through a pitch black rainforest, using only the torch from his phone to guide him to the top of the Pedra De Gavia mountain.
He said: “It was well worth it for the amazing view. I’ll have to think of a new challenge now. I don’t just want to tick off countries for the sake of it. I just travel and eat pizza along the way.”
