A popular Liverpool bar, café and event space has scooped a prestigious award for its lavish garden canopy.
Constellations Liverpool, in the city’s Baltic Triangle, is a venue that occupies a disused industrial yard and boasts a café, bar, garden space and now a national award for architecture.
The canopy, which claimed the Commercial and Leisure Award for 2015, was designed by Howard Miller and has been a hit with customers bringing summery vibes and providing shelter in the colder months.
The award is a real coup for the independent Liverpool business which was able to fend off competition from BSkyB’s new education facility in London and the Canary Wharf Crossrail station to scoop the gong.
“For a small scale project like us to win against these globally renowned Design and Engineering practices is like Tranmere beating Liverpool in the FA Cup Final,” Howard Miller, the project architect, told the Independent Liverpool.
Howard and his brother were approached in April last year and were given the task of creating the project to be operational for that summer. It took little over three months from that point until the opening party.
Constellations events and marketing director, Nicholas Baskerville told JMU Journalism: “It’s great to see the team behind Constellations, especially the architects, being recognised for all their hard work.
“From day one we wanted to bring something different to the Baltic Triangle, a place we’re proud to call our home. Howard and Hugh went above and beyond our brief and came up with a design that is totally unique to Liverpool.”
He added: “If you haven’t been down to our warehouse on Greenland Street then do pop in and say ‘hello’. We’re open seven days a week now and through the winter months we’re focussing on our cafe and indoor event space.
“Behind the scenes we’re busy planning a programme of events to keep us entertained through the summer, 2016 is looking pretty exciting so far.”
