A local fashion designer is preparing to showcase some of her work at Liverpool’s Kazimier Garden later this month.
Liz Sheard, 23, will be designing costumes and set elements for the Liverpool folk band ‘Stealing Sheep’ for their event ‘Mythopoeia’ which will take place at the Kazimierz on November 28th.
Although she was born in Swindon, Sheard chose to study Theatre Design at The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA).
She told JMU Journalism: “They offered the best course for my field of interest outside of London. Not only did I really like the university and course when I came to look round on open days, I also fell in love with the city.
“I think Liverpool is a great place to live and has so much to offer in terms of the arts and its culture. It has a really fantastic music scene and there are lots of venues such as the Kazimier that give the city its quirkiness and individuality”.
Sheard graduated in 2013 and has been working as a theatre designer full time since then, however she insists that her primary focus in on costume. The graduate has also had her work exhibited as numerous festivals up and down the country, including Glastonbury.
She said: “In 2013 I entered the IdeasTap Graduate Award for Design and won third place which gave me the opportunity to exhibit my design work for the week during London Design Festival.
“I’ve also had a selection of my costume creations go to festivals in the UK, the first time I saw my designs at Festival No 6 it was such a great feeling as I’d been working night and day on them for three months. To see the actors bring the costumes to life with their characters was really amazing to watch”.
Sheard’s artwork will be one of the final exhibits on display at the Kazimier before it closes its doors for good on New Year’s Day 2016.
“I’m trying to do as much as I can in The Kazimier club before it closes – gutted! So, I’ve got a few commissions for events coming up there,” she added.
