The Clapperboard Youth Project Awards is returning with an Oscar-style ceremony for its 10th Anniversary.
The Youth Project is a short film-making activity for young people in Liverpool, focusing on issues that affect their lives such as racism, sexuality, gender and gang culture.
Maureen Sinclair, organiser and director of Clapperboard UK, told JMU Journalism: “We aim to bring creativity into education by focusing on issues such as modern day social problems that affect them and their communities.”
“I started the project 10 years ago when opportunities like film-making weren’t offered to young people. After working in the film and television industry for 30 years I wanted to give something back.”
In celebration Liverpool’s young talent, participants with family and teachers will come together on Tuesday to admire the hard work.
The short films are judged by a panel of experts. This year’s judges include acclaimed writer Frank Cottrell Boyce, award-winning actor John Simm, award-winning producer Nicola Shindle, and ex-Clapperboard volunteer Sascha Corkill.
The young people will then have a chance of meeting their television idols as special awards will be given by celebrities including Ricky Tomlinson and cast from Emmerdale, Hollyoaks and Waterloo Road.
Julian Sudbury, a participant in the Youth Project, told JMU Journalism: “I have enjoyed working with Clapperboard for the opportunities given to me by Maureen and Colin. I have also made great friends in the people I have met during the group sessions. I’m eager to continue working on more projects in the future.”
The Clapperboards Awards ceremony takes place on Tuesday, November 3rd at 7pm in The Capstone Theatre on the Hope University Creative Campus.
