BT has become the title sponsor of Liverpool’s Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon and half marathon.
This brand new running event will celebrate Liverpool’s music scene and at every mile on the course there will be live bands and DJs playing a range of music, from classic rock to blues to keep motivation high.
A festival will greet the runners at the finish line on the waterfront which will star local acts on the main stage. The event, due to take place on 25th May, is expected to attract at least 8,000 runners. The marathon route will feature some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including Liverpool and Everton FC’s grounds and The Cavern Club.
Suzi Williams, BT Group marketing and brand director, said: “At BT, we understand Liverpool’s two great passions – sport and music – and the BT Rock ‘n’ Roll Liverpool Marathon is the ideal way to celebrate both. It’s set to be a fantastic day for locals and visitors alike, whether they’re competing or just soaking up the great atmosphere across the city.”
Participants have a choice of two courses, either the full marathon distance of 26.2 miles long or the half marathon.
The marathon is a Competitor Group event and has been running globally since 1998 in cities such as New York and Los Angeles. This is the first time that the running series has come to Liverpool.
Josh Furlow, executive vice president of global events at Competitor Group, said: “We are excited to welcome BT as the title partner of the inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll Liverpool Marathon, which provides a unique, world-class running event and rock concert all-in-one. We look forward to working closely with BT, Liverpool City Council and the local running community to organise a city-wide festival weekend celebrating music and sport.”
