A new report by price comparison website MoneySupermarket has named Liverpool as one of the best places to live in the UK.
Their research ranks Liverpool fourth in a table ranking the country’s 12 largest cities according to the quality of life enjoyed by their residents.
Liverpool finished ahead of the likes of Leeds, London, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow, but behind Bristol, Edinburgh and Cardiff. The ‘quality of living index’ was calculated using criteria such as property market activity; rental costs; salary levels; disposable income growth; cost of living; unemployment rates and life satisfaction.
Assistant Mayor and Cabinet Member responsible for tourism, Councillor Wendy Simon, told JMU Journalism: “It’s fantastic news that we’ve been rated as the fourth best city in the UK.
“This city has so much to offer when it comes to its history and rich cultural offer that not only are visitors spoiled for choice when they spend time here, but it is also a highly desirable place to live and work.”
Liverpool scored better than the national average in fields including the cost of living and average outlays on mortgages.
Councillor Simon added: “This shows that the city is moving in the correct direction and we continuously strive to make Liverpool an even better and safer place to live.”
Bristol topped the rankings for the quality of living, with the bottom two places being occupied by Sheffield and Bradford. This comes just weeks after Liverpool was pinpointed as the third best city in the world to visit in 2014 in a report carried out by travel experts Rough Guides.
