The Vauxhall Merseyside plant in Ellesmere Port is planning to take on approximately 100 apprentices across its manufacturing, central and retail operations within the next year, bringing more opportunities for young people in the area.
As part of National Apprenticeship Week, figures have been released revealing almost half of businesses in the country plan to take on apprentices in the next five years. The research, released by ICM, compares to just over three in 10 employers when asked the same question in 2013.
Phil Milward, Vauxhall HR director, told JMU Journalism: “The apprenticeship pathway is an excellent way of bringing bright young talent into our organisation, thereby supporting our youth and sustainability.”
Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Vince Cable, said: “As we kick off National Apprenticeship Week it’s good to see that employers are increasingly recognising the value apprentices can bring to their businesses.
“Apprentices are now a key and valued part of the workforce for most businesses large or small – and the huge increase which this government has overseen is one of my proudest achievements.”
National Apprenticeship Week is now in its seventh year and is designed to celebrate trainee schemes and the positive impact they have on individuals, businesses and the wider economy.
