Residents across several areas of Liverpool have experienced problems with their water supply in recent days with brown, dirty water coming from their taps.
The problem occurred between 6pm last Sunday night and 6am the following morning. Large parts of the city experienced issues with Aintree, Crosby, Croxteth, Fazakerley, Norris Green, Kirkdale West Derby and Kirby being affected the most, whilst other postcodes suffered minor discoloration.
It is not yet known what caused the murky water but United Utilities said it is investigating the incident.
Mark Donaghy, a company spokesman, told JMU Journalism: “We’re really sorry to customers in north Liverpool for some temporary problems with their water supplies yesterday.
“The unexpected disturbance of naturally occurring sediment in one of our trunk mains caused discolouration, which although unlikely to be harmful, was unpleasant for people. Our engineers and water quality officers worked late into the night to resolve the issue.”
There have been no major reports of the problem in recent days and it appears that all water supplies are now back to normal.
