A student has raised over £600 for cancer research in memory of her father – and the money continues to roll in.
Rachel Williams, who studies Popular Music Performance at the University of Chester, has organised two charity gigs in the city to raise money for Cancer Research UK after her father died from the disease last year.
Rachel, 20, told JMU Journalism: “I wanted to do something positive to help raise money, as obviously this charity means a lot to me.
“Organising these events has actually given me peace of mind – while it has been a lot of hard work, I would much rather be out there organising these events because I feel like I’m doing something to help.”
Although Rachel is busy studying for her final year at university, she is also very keen to bring more of her charity events over to Liverpool within the next few months.
“Liverpool is obviously a really great music scene, so I am very excited to get organising some charity events over there later this year.
“I’m aiming to bring an event to Liverpool around May or June time, and I’m hoping it will bring in a really great crowd and we can raise even more money for Cancer Research.”
Rachel has had a lot of support from her family, friends and fellow students who have put their musical talents to good use by performing at her events.
Rachel added: “I couldn’t have done this without the help of my friends and family.
“Our first event was festival-themed, and my mum and brother were busy raising money on stalls.
“My mum was extra busy because she has also been making her own prizes for all the raffles as well.”
