Liverpool City Council will be holding three free events at the Albert Dock waterfront throughout May and June.
‘Liverpool on the Waterfront’ will start on the 24th May when it kicks off with the 70th anniversary of Battle of the Atlantic commemorations.
The Royal Navy and the Merchant Navy will be working in partnership with the council to host a number of activities on the waterfront.
As well as the host of activities taking place, there will be a veterans parade, a special band concert held by Her Majesty’s Royal Marines at the Philharmonic Hall, a ’40s-themed party at St. George’s Hall and a James Bond-style display involving the Royal Marines and Liverpool’s own Motor Tug Brocklebank.
The medley will then continue with Albert Dock birthday celebrations from 31st May to 2nd June to mark 25 years since the dock was regenerated and the Tate Liverpool was opened.
The people of Liverpool will be invited down to the Albert Dock to take part in a range of family activities and entertainment.
To celebrate the regenerated dock’s 25th anniversary, the Beatles Story will have free family workshops and Tate Liverpool will be holding creative workshops for children.
PanAm and Blue Bar and Grill will also be joining in, doing ‘kids eat free’ deals.
The final weekend of the medley will see the return of Music on the Waterfront, which will start on 7th June and finish on 9th June. Local talent and household names will perform on an outdoor stage in front of the Liver Buildings in a musical takeover on the Pier Head.
Sarah Langworthy, Press Officer for Liverpool Culture Team, told JMU Journalism: “There is always a huge amount of work undertaken by the city council and any partner organisations for any events of this scale.
“The city has an excellent reputation for its outstanding free events and residents and visitors come to the city in their thousands to enjoy the activities which are taking place.
“The fact that the majority of these events are taking place around the waterfront will also be a huge attraction.”
