Two businessmen from Southport are donating half of their profits to hospices in the UK.
Jeremy Hughes and Richard Cavanagh set up Kanusa Office Supplies in September last year.
The decision to split the profits with hospices was always the intention, but began in December.
Kansua has set up 18 separate web shops – one for each of the hospices, including one for Claire House on the Wirral – and half the profits go to that hospice. A hospice in Southport is also benfitting.
After a 21-year career in the office supplies industry, the two Southport based entrepreneurs decided to open their own company.
Kanusa has a target to win 300 customers per hospice in the next four years, which would generate around £3m.
The company have what they call a 20/20 vision, which means they hope to donate £20m by the year 2020.
Mr Hughes, joint managing director of Kanusa, told JMU Journalism: “Personally I just think it’s the right thing to do. There’s a lot of people out there who aren’t as lucky as us.
“If the people that can help the people who can’t then it’s a worthwhile thing to do.”
He added: “It’s one thing making a profit and another thing making a difference.
“The reason I chose Claire House is that it is our local children’s hospice.”
Claire House has recently been in the spotlight after Coleen Rooney’s adopted sister Rosie died in the hospice last weekend.
The 14-year-old suffered from a rare genetic disorder. Rosie’s illness inspired the famous couple to raise money for sick, disabled and disadvantaged children.
Lynn Taylor, Sefton and West Lancs Fundrasier from Claire House Children’s Hospice, told JMU Journalism: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Kanusa Office Supplies.
“It is a fantastic idea their passion and dedication is inspirational.
“Kanusa Office Supplies are donating 50% of their profits. This is amazing as it costs £6,500 per day to keep the doors of Claire House open.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to directors Jeremy and Richard for choosing to support Claire House.
“We look forward to an exciting 2013 for Kanusa Office Supplies and Claire House Children’s Hospice.”
Kanusa supplies office equipment to both businesses and individuals. Other hospices which are supported by the company include Queensport adult hospice in Southport and the Forget Me Not hospice in Huddersfield.
As well as supporting the hospices, Kanusa has contacted former workers of Comet to offer them a job at the expanding business. Comet recently ceased trading, leaving its workers unexpectedly unemployed.
The businessmen hope to open up 12 more web shops to support more hospices by the end of March.
