It was a sign of things to come as giant letters spelling out the word ‘Dollywood’ came to Liverpool city centre today.
An eight foot-high Hollywood lookalike sign was raised on Chavasse Park in Liverpool One and in Paradise Street on Wednesday, advertising a new musical stage show, 9 to 5, which is coming to the Liverpool Empire.
The Dollywood sign, which was made up of nine wooden letters, was only visible for the public to view for 15 minutes before they were taken away.
Liverpool Empire press officer Andrea Langley said: “We have only got one week until the 9 to 5 comes to the Empire, so we though we would do something a bit interesting and different to welcome the cast and crew to Liverpool.”
She added: “It’s a new show and a brand new production and all of the music is written by Dolly Parton. So we are really excited.”
The musical 9 to 5 is based on the movie of the same name, although Dolly herself does not star in the stage show. It will feature three office workers who turn the tables on their sexist boss, in what promises to be “outrageous, thought provoking and even a little romantic”, according to a press release.
The show will take place at the Liverpool Empire from the 14th to 19th January.
